As with any dramatic art, athletic event, and part-time job, improv requires training and practice. The Kingston Improv Games is dedicated to providing each and every school registered with equal training opportunities as well as the chance to learn from each other on and off the stage.
Please take the time to rehearse and train yourselves in impulse and trust... the more a team trains together, the better they play together!
Training season for Individual Team Trainings opens October 1, 2007 and closes February 6, 2008 (two weeks prior to the Regionals). Teams receive one free 3 hour training session with one of our qualified trainers with their registration, which is to be given to their team (maximum 8 players) and coaches. Trainers go over a number of skills necessary for a strong improv foundation, discuss the CIG events and structure, and are there to help with any questions, concerns, or special requests your team might have.
Learning from one trainer is great, so learning from multiple trainers, as well as from other teams and coaches, must be fabulous... right? Right! That's why we so adore Winter Workshops (December 1) and Exhibitions (November 30 and December 1). Workshops go into detail on the basic skills, approaches to the CIG events, and give teams a taste of new and interesting methods one could incorporate into scene work. Exhibitions give teams a chance to take risks in front of their peers and a live audience, get helpful feedback from adjudicators, and have a rollicking good time!
